ABSTRACT: In the absence of notarial deeds, the present article deals with captivity in Vélez-Málaga based on the Division Books (Libros del Repartimiento). It is very relevant information to study the phenomenon, showing its evolution in three decisive stages: the last years of Muslim domain, the end of the War of Granada and the beginning of the overseas frontier (frontera de allende). The collected data, hitherto unknown, fit within the dynamics noticed for the rest of the Kingdom of Granada in the transition from Medieval to Modern Times.
