ABSTRACT: This study deals with the intervention of the Inquisition in the defence of the Ecclesiastical Institution against Bourbon regalism during the first third of the 18th century. This issue is analysed through a censorship case against a manifesto published by the intendant of Valencia in response to the complaints expressed by the cathedral chapter of that city as a result of the Bourbon tax reforms that attacked ecclesiastical immunities.
