ABSTRACT: The figure of Francisco Sánchez el Viejo, notary public, of the council and of the Santa Hermandad of Dos Hermanas, is presented as the most outstanding in the list of notaries of that town in the alfoz of Seville in the 16th century. None of the notaries that succeeded one another throughout that century reached the fortune of Sánchez, amassed thanks to his commercial activities, especially those related to wine. Throughout this paper we will try to approach his biography.
