\ Memory of a Lost Legacy. The General Chapter of the Order of Alcántara Celebrated in Seville, Year of 1511.
Abstract
ABSTRACT: The disgragation, lost, deterioration and destruction of the
documents that some day they formed the archive of the convent of San Benito
de Alcántara has suppossed a priceless lagoon in the study of the Order of Alcántara. Thanks to the works of Bonifacio Palacios Martín, Luis Corral Val, Dionisio Ángel Martín Nieto y José María López de Zuazo y Algar great progress were made in the recovery of the written testimonies of the alcantarine institution. This work intends to continue this line with the publication of the acts of the general chapter celebrated in the year 1511, fragmentarily preserved in the Historical Archive of the Nobility, that narrate the role of the Order of Alcántara in the final stretch of the transition period that suppossed the reign of the Catholic Kings and, where appropriate, the administration of the kingdom of Castilla by hand of Fernando the Catholic.
