Abstract

In the present work we will analyze a poetry book of the catalan writer Angelina Gatell Comas, which was published in 1963 and titled Esa oscura palabra. We will also present two poemas that were published in April 1958 in the magazine Poesía Española and will argue that it was during the decades of the fifties and sixties when the poet worked intensely in the poetry of the compromise that was on fashion during the mid-twentieth century in Spain. The main objective of this work is to show both poems that appeared only in the magazine so as to complete the panorama of Gatell’s social poetry that was also published in book format by means of three titles: Poema del soldado (1954), Esa oscura palabra (1963) and Las claudicaciones (1969). A study of the most representative poems of the compromise in the book of 1963 will be presented at the beginning of the paper so as to put in context the work of the poet and also to go through her main accidents in poetry and thus insert her name in the literary canon of the period.
