Israel and the future of Middle East: a comprehensive vision

Abstract

Israel is a consolidated state in the Middle East region. In the afterwards of four conventional wars that a number Arab states launched against Israel between 1948 and 1973 this central actor has been obliged to survive during the five following decades in an increasingly complex region defined by a number of security challenges. This complexity involves, as the most immediate challenge, a number of Palestinian actors and the need to define a definitive formula of coexistence with them. In addition, a number of statal and non state actors pursue their effort to destroy Israel. Nevertheless, Israel remains as a strong actor who, even if it is obliged today and will remain obliged in the years to come to face a myriad of domestic and regional challenges, this strategy will consolidate itself not only on the base of its power but also profiting a number of emerging opportunities offered by the evolving geopolitical scenary.
