Abstract

The risks in the development of Artificial Intelligence (AI) unleash multiple dystopias, with its application in the field of Security and Defense being one of its most controversial aspects.

Despite the numerous calls for attention from different governmental, non-governmental, and interstate actors, States face differently the development of Lethal Autonomous Weapons Systems (LAWS) depending on their interests, culture, and ethical values, frequently, in the face of the absence of clear international legality.

It is in this geopolitical environment, where the Western principles and values that once were the guidelines in the global sphere are currently questioned and eclipsed by the reality of a different world, in which the United Nations tries to reach agreements to regulate the development of LAWS and limit the risk that machines could escape the control of human beings.
