Las lecturas de don Pedro de Granada Venegas, I marqués de Campotéjar (1559-1643).

Abstract

RESUMEN: A partir de documentación notarial, en este artículo se estudia la figura de Don Pedro de Granada Venegas (1559-1643), I Marqués de Campotéjar, desde una doble perspectiva: como militar y cortesano al servicio de la Monarquía Española, y como dueño de una notable y variada biblioteca –manuscritos e impresos– que formó a lo largo de su vida. Se trata de una biblioteca que sobrepasa en número de libros la media de los poseídos por la nobleza madrileña de entre 1626 y 1650. Su inventario nos permite un mejor conocimiento de la persona del Marqués de Campotéjar y de sus inquietudes intelectuales.

ABSTRACT: The present paper studies two aspects of the figure of Don Pedro de Granada Venegas (1559-1643), 1st Marquis of Campotéjar: firstly, that of soldier and courtier in the service of the Spanish Monarchy and, secondly, as owner of an important and varied library, containing manuscripts and printed matter, which he built up during his lifetime. The number of books contained in his library was larger than that of the average library among the nobility in Madrid between 1626 and 1650. The inventory of the books permits us to learn more about the character of the Marquis of Campotéjar and his intellectual pursuits.
