Resumen

RESUMEN: En el presente estudio trataremos de descifrar el proceso por el cual el cabildo de la Catedral de Sevilla creó una serie de códices, denominados genéricamente libros de estatutos, en los que se asentaron las normas por las que se rigió la sede hasta la caída del Antiguo Régimen. Intentaremos comprender cómo se llegó a conformar el desordenado conjunto de reglas y leyes que acabó siendo, y aclarar la forma y los tiempos en que estos manuscritos, receptores de información a veces inédita, se usaron, nacieron y murieron. Además, pondremos de manifiesto otra práctica escrituraria de la que se valió el cabildo para dar a conocer sus estatutos y sobre la que no se había llamado la atención hasta ahora.

ABSTRACT: In this study we will decipher the process by which the canonry of the Cathedral of Seville created a series of codices, generically called Statute Books, in which were written the rules that governed the see until the fall of the Old Regime. We aim to understand how they became the unordered group of rules and laws that finally were. Also we will clarify how and when these manuscripts, sometimes recipients of unpublished information, were used, were born and died. In addition, we will show another scriptural practice of the canonry used to publicize their statutes which had not attracted attention until now.
