Hermeneutics. Towards a Philosophy without Text
Main Article Content
Abstract
This article aims to present and develop the following question: public universities in Brazil, in the field of human sciences, especially in the area of philosophy, have been limited to investigating the understanding, explanation and interpretation of written texts only. It is considered problematic that, both in undergraduate (bachelor’s or undergraduate) and postgraduate (master's and doctorate) courses, it is mandatory to deal with the production of texts in order to enter or complete a course at a public university. This problem manifests itself both in the situation of selection for a place for entry and in the completion of a course, in which it is necessary to write a formal text, that is, a text for entry and another for graduation. Therefore, the development of this investigation starts from three main moments, namely: Ortega y Gasset’s reflection on the university; Hans-Georg Gadamer’s notion of “text thing”; and Paul Ricoeur’s notion of “text world”. Finally, we seek to demonstrate, based on the hermeneutics of Gadamer and Ricoeur, other possibilities that go beyond the conception of text established by written fixation.
