Understanding Oneself in the Play of Art: Participation in Symbolic Artistic Celebration in Light of Gadamer’s Philosophical Hermeneutics
Main Article Content
Abstract
This work reflects on understanding oneself in the play of the hermeneutic experience of art. We draw on Gadamer's hermeneutics, highlighting the concepts of play, celebration, and symbol as a path to consider the mode of being of art and participation in its discourse as a transformative power of human self-understanding. Based on the texts "Atualidade do Beleza" (1998) and "O jogo da arte" (1989), we reflect on the ontological challenges of the event of art and the declarative character (Aussage) of this phenomenon. We intuit in the experience of art a provocation capable of transcending and expanding interpretative horizons regarding legitimate questions of the spirit and human transcendence, without subordinating itself to rules, judgments, and/or concepts. We believe that the authentic presence of art, through the participatory experience of its constructs, paradigmatically evokes a comprehensive knowledge necessary for understand the historical reality of Being.
