SUMMARY Rogelio Salmona always insisted that one of the great challenges facing architecture was its ability to dialogue with history and geography. When dealing with questions of how to incorporate built works into their surroundings, he did not usually take only the landscape into account but also often referred to geography in a broader sense. He was of the opinion that architecture should be a vehicle for gaining a greater understanding of a given geographic setting. This article addresses Salmona’s strategies for forging links with landscapes – strategies based on influences received whilst working in Paris with Le Corbusier and Francastel – and how he applied them to some of his housing projects. These approaches, ranging from strategies involving distant links with the profile of the landscape to modifying existing topography or creating a new orography by building terraces, all have an impact on open-air spaces and the buildings themselves, and culminate in the concept of limits that stretch out from a building and connect with the landscape. The buildings chosen for this analysis are three residential developments on the slopes of the mountains around Bogotá and three of his one-family houses. This paper spans a considerable period of his production and features original drawings and plans, some published here for the very first time.

}, number={21}, journal={Proyecto, Progreso, Arquitectura}, author={Mejía Vallejo, Clara and Merí de la Maza, Ricardo}, year={2019}, month={nov.}, pages={132–151} }
