Abstract

Mercè Rodoreda expresses in her works a strong Catalan identity and a countercorrent feminism. From her exile in Geneva, where she settles in 1954 and where she will reside during twenty years, Rodoreda continued writing in Catalan. This choice is the result of an identitary and cultural defense that she leads during her whole life. In this article I’m going to analyze the biographical traces that appear in her exile works: the main characters avoid every kind of definition, as she did during her life; the setting she chooses are the places where she spent her life -Barcelona, Geneva, Romanyá de la Selva- and the same exile appears in each of her novels, to the point that, more than thirty years after the first publication, she writes again one of her oldest novels, that she first wrote before the exile: Aloma.
}, number={13}, journal={Revista Internacional de Culturas y Literaturas}, author={Veglia, Laura}, year={2013}, month={abr.}, pages={154–161} }
